Pepsi has a new innovative advertising campaign that encourages passers-by to listen to short song snippets from publicly-situated multimedia displays. Close to 100 of the interactive posters have been deployed by Canadian advertising firm BBDO around the Toronto and Vancouver areas, allowing you to quickly unplug from your iPod and jack into 30 seconds of tunes that are meant to whet your appetite for owning the entire track. Once you're hooked, you're presumably supposed to go out and buy yourself a bottle of Pepsi, which will contain an exclusive PIN number redeemable on the company's site for that song you liked along with other music-related swag. http://www.sagags.comProperty spectrum: Use of senses The property is about increasing interaction of systems with human senses. The trend relates only to the number of trends incorporated into a system, not the sequence. In all, there are five key senses involved in the trend - see, hear, touch, smell, and taste. Engaging more of the user’s senses may improve interfaces and enhance user experiences ![]() |

| Each SawStop saw is equipped with a safety system that detects when someone accidentally contacts the spinning saw blade, and then stops the blade in milliseconds. In most cases, such an accident would result in just a nick on a SawStop saw, instead of the devastating injury which would likely occur on an ordinary saw. The SawStop safety system includes an electronic detection system that detects when a person contacts the blade. The system induces an electrical signal onto the blade and then monitors that signal for changes. The human body has a relatively large inherent electrical capacitance and conductivity, unlike wood which is lower in capacitance and conductivity, which causes the signal to drop when a person contacts the blade. http://www.sawstop.comProperty spectrum: Smart materials Materials increasingly evolve from passive to fully adaptive materials. E.g. shape memory alloys and thermo chromic materials. The advantage of this saw is that it will prevent hurting yourself. ![]() |

| Changing lenses in a camera can allow dust to enter the camera. So to keep the CCD (charge-coupled device) imager clean for better pictures, the SonyDSLR-A100 camera utilizes both static-free anti-dust coating on the CCD filter and anti-dust vibration that automatically shakes the CCD to dislodge dust each time the camera is shut off. The camera also introduces Sony® imaging innovations like high-sensitivity shooting with Super SteadyShot® in-camera image stabilization, Dynamic Range Optimizer to automatically increase detail in bright and dark picture areas and Eye-Start® Autofocus system for faster camera response. http://www.sonystyle.comProperty spectrum: Action coordination This principle describes the coordination between components, systems, and their environments towards a common goal. Evolution is from a non-coordinated action between subsystem, system, and super-system elements to increasing coordination and synergy between them. ![]() |

Imagine what people thought when presented with the idea of a telephone not connected by a wire. Or an airplane that doesn't use a propeller to fly. Well, the idea of a bike without a chain may have seemed equally as revolutionary to some, but it is this concept that makes the Dekra D-Drive a truly innovative bike. Dekra's patented D-Drive chainless drive system replaces the parts of a bike that cause the most problems, the chain and derailleur. By doing so, it also eliminates the grease, maintenance, torn clothing and other issues common with chain-driven bikes. http://www.dekrabike.comProperty spectrum: Trimming This property describes how systems eventually evolve to contain fewer and fewer components, while managing to maintain or in some instances actually increase functionality. ![]() |

| This month we selected the submission of Jonathan Hey, Berkeley University. The Stylfile is the latest innovation in nail care that will change the way you file your nails forever. Its smooth curve-hugging design follows the natural contour of your nails. This curved profile means you can create that professional look effortlessly. You'll love it because: It creates a professional look effortlessly. Its shape makes it easier to create a perfect finish with your less dominant hand. You spend less time angling the file around your nail. We have gone to extreme lengths to ensure the quality and Long life of the Stylfile, even performing tests under an electron microscope! The abrasive surface is made from ultra-hard Silicon Carbide, as recommended by professionals. The Stylfile lies naturally in the hand making it easier to hold. It looks great. http://www.stylfile.com![]() |
If you enjoy CREAX newsletters, you will enjoy our hands-on
Systematic Innovation seminar. Our next 2day seminar is scheduled for
the 27th & 28th of September.
As of today our updated website is online. Just a few of the updates:
|
In 2001 CREAX launched the most extensive list of links available on the net around creativity and innovation. This portal was world renowned and was actively visited every day.
The demand for reliable, comfortable, intelligent and/or innovative products, taking care of design, emphasizes the importance of integral product development.
Retraining to creative product developers is therefore needed, not only with knowledge of (new) technology, but also able to translate this into concrete products and services with attention for economical, social en design aspects.
